On Tuesday 13th, in the wide rooms of the Civic Museums in Udine, it was inaugurated, with a great number of people and in evidence in the local newspapers, the Exhibition “Maria Callas a woman, a voice, a myth", which will be open till April, Monday 9th 2007.
The exhibit organized by Maria Callas Association, presided by Mr. Bruno Tosi, was carried out by Confcommercio of Udine together with the Social, Political, Educational and Cultural Department of Udine, The Civic Museums and History and Arts Galleries, supported by the Chamber of Commerce and other sponsors. The Ascom of Udine committed itself recognizing the importance of such a big cultural event for the town.
The Exhibition opens with a fresh blow-up of "Turandot", performed at Puccini Theatre of Udine in March 1948, at the beginning of Maria Callas’s career. We mustn’t forget that this event is one of the 2007 celebrations all over the world, sixty years after the artist’s debut and thirty years after her death, which prematurely took place in Paris in September 1977.
With no doubt the placing of the significant antiques of the most complete collection in the world is impressive. In fact the background for the dresses, the costume jewels, the programmes, the playbills and the pictures of Medea of Pasolini performed by Callas, are the painting masterpieces of the many rooms of the Picture Gallery of Udine.
An outstanding tribute to the greatest singer of our time.
