| The Association Syracuse
Friends for Lyric (A.S.A.L. onlus) and the
Association Maria Callas presided by
Bruno Tosi with the support of the
Regional Tourism Council, the Regional Province of Syracuse
and the Town Council of Syracuse, present the exhibition
“Maria Callas, a woman, a voice, a myth_
offstage with the Divina”, an event in
memory of the baritone Carmelo Mollica from Syracuse.
From June 17th to July 16th 2006, in Syracuse, in
three magnificent halls of the Government Palace, people
will have the opportunity to admire antiques, stage
dresses, sumptuous evening dresses, jewels and original
documents that belonged to the Divina. The collection
will be placed inside a stagey scenography reproducing
a backstage, aiming to retrace, together with the big
artist, the stagey backgrounds, up to her appearing
on the stage.

The first hall is staged with five
scenes where there are the stage dresses, the jewels
and shoes worn by Maria Callas in five of the operas
that made her famous. There will be the dress she wore
in “La Traviata” at the Metropolitan of
New York in 1956 and the one she wore in “Tosca”
by Zeffirelli in London, Paris and New York; then the
dress she wore in 1956 at the Scala in Milan in “Il
Barbiere di Siviglia” and the one she used in
1954 for the theatrical season opening, performing “La
Vestale”, conducted by Luchino Visconti; the last
scene is dedicated to the dress she wore for her last
concert in Sapporo, Japan, in November 11th 1974. The
hall is enriched by antiques offered by Claudio Fayer.
The other two halls represent, through
pictures, the woman Callas between public and private
life; on exhibition there are her dresses, letters and
her own recipes.
The exhibition opening will be on Saturday,
June 17th at 7.00 p.m. at the Government
