Callas's voice enchants the Arena of Verona.
Tosi receives the Award destined to the Divine

Callas sings the Traviata and once again she enraptures and affects the audience in the Arena, where the immortal Prima Donna had started her career becoming famous all over the world on August 2nd 1947.
Her extraordinary performance of "Farewell" to the past, the dying Violetta, has had an exceptional stand in: Eleonora Abbagnato in the far terrace of the Arena has appeared heavenly and dreamy.
An endless ovation (about 10.000 people) has marked an outstanding part of the soiree for the giving the Opera Awards (first edition).
At this point Massimo Ghini, anchorman with Michele Placido, has invited to the stage Bruno Tosi, President of Maria Callas International Association, who has had the privilege of receiving the Award destined to the Divina, a golden statuette representing the Nike of Samotracia, symbol of victory.
This is what the begetter of the prize, Alfredo Troisi (Verona for the Arena), has wanted, mentioning that the Venetian cultural operator has been promoting the Callas's exhibition worldwide for twenty years and wrote three books about the singer.
The Award will be forever in Venice, at the Museum that will be set up the next year and on September 23rd it will be displayed at the Cultural Institute of S. Francisco, where will be opened the Exhibition: "A Woman, a Voice, a Myth", that later on, in December, will be in New York, Maria's "birthplace".
In addition, other two big Myths of the past have been recalled: Renata Tebaldi and Mario Del Monaco.
A prize for the career has been given to Carlo Bergonzi (86 years), heartily welcomed, and Mirella Freni.
The Zenatello prize has been given to some new talented singers.
