| At last the Italian mail (Ministry
of Post and Telecommunications) has published the official
list of the commemorative stamps that will be issued
in 2007. The first in the list is Maria Callas, who,
on December 15th 2005, fixing the issues programme for
2007, had already been appointed by the philatelic Council.
So the request expressed by Maria Callas Association
in 2005 has been fulfilled, thanks also to the positive
consent of Mr.Mario Lanfranchi mp., in that time Minister
of Post and Telecommunications, who had immediately
engaged the executive to achieve it. Thanks to our site
we have collected 170.000 signatures that have surely
contributed to the successful result of the project.
Here below (in italian only) the official
list of the commemorative stamps that will be issued
in 2007:

All over the world preparations are
going on to celebrate and recall Maria Callas, prematurely
dead on September 16th 1977 in Paris in a tragic and
mysterious way. Also our Association will be fully involved
in promoting initiatives in Italy and all over the world.
The first notice is the issue of a stamp and a special
recollection in Italy. The Communications Minister,
Mr. Mario Landolfi, previously, on December 6th 2005,
demonstrated a very great interest, assigning the philately
conference the accomplishment of the project (see picture
below).
The philatelic programme besides includes the tribute
to Maria Callas; about this we will give you, in a short
time, further details. Up to now we thank the visitors
of our site (more than 80.000!) who have subscribed
the signatures collection for the initiative, giving
a strong contribution to the acceptance of our request
at the Communications Department.
This is an event which honours us very much, and it
is for us also a great ambition to have obtained the
entitling of a Callas street in the heart of Venice,
just behind the monumental building of the Fenice Theatre.
Also in that occasion we promoted a signatures collection
by the site WWW.CALLAS.IT; in a short time another one
will start for the entitling of a street Maria Callas
in Hamburg, where the Divina gave a series of unforgettable
concerts.

Maria Callas with Beniamino Gigli in Sanremo, 1954
Callas is a myth all over the world,
but we must keep on mind that she is Italian, and her
career and marriage too; nevertheless, by her incomparable
singing, she succeeded in bringing our great music and
opera heritage everywhere. She was an insuperable performer
of Bellini, Donizzetti, Spontini and Cherubini, just
to mention some big composer, without forgetting Puccini.
