| On the last May 26th in Porcari
di Lucca the great Dimitra Theodossiou celebrated Maria
Callas with an extraordinary concert. Greek as the Divina,
the Athenian soprano, accompanied by the pianist Massimo
Morelli, enchanted the large audience, come to the Palace
of Glass (Palazzo del Vetro) of the Foundation Giuseppe
Lazzareschi, on the occasion of the exhibition “
Maria Callas-a Woman, a Voice, a Myth”. This is
the latest meeting dedicated to the primadonna (five
musical and cultural Fridays).
Dimitra Theodossious is one of the most famous international
singers, and, after the concert, she was praised with
an endless standing ovation.
The programme was quite exacting and entirely dedicated
to the opera: from “La Bohème” to
“La Traviata”, from “Tosca”
to “La Wally”, from “La forza del
destino” to “Roberto Deveraux”, from
“Anna Bolena” to “La sonnambula”.
In order to fulfil the audience’s enthusiasm,
the soprano offered two encores, with a magnificent
interpretation of “Casta Diva” and “Tu
che di gel sei cinta” from “Turandot”.

Dimitra Theodossiou became very popular
all over the world dealing with the most fearful characters,
conducted by the most famous maestros: Muti, Abbado,
Gergiev, Chailly, Campanella, Gelmetti and Viotti.
After her performances of the masterpieces by Verdi,
Bellini, Donizzetti, Puccini, she achieved a real triumph
in 2005, in Lisbon, with Cherubini’s “Medea”.
At the Musical May in Florence she obtained the greatest
consents by critics and audience in “I Lombardi
alla prima crociata” conducted by Roberto Abbado
and, as Violetta, in “La Traviata”. Previously
she was acclaimed at the Scala Theatre with “I
due Foscari” of Verdi, conducted by Riccardo Muti.
The Foundation Giuseppe Lazzareschi couldn’t choose
a better protagonist to pay tribute to Maria Callas,
who can be rightly considered her heir, not only for
being Greek . The Foundation Giuseppe Lazzareschi, inaugurated
on November 21st 2003 by the President Mr. Marcello
Pera, has promoted a worthy and rich cultural activity,
proposing interesting exhibitions and prestigious meetings.
The exhibition of the Callas Association, visited up
to now by thousands of people from Tuscany, but not
only, will be open until June 4th.
