THE GREAT CALLAS EXHIBITION AT ALSTERHAUS IN HAMBURG
HAS FINISHED WITH MORE THAN 1,300,000 VISITORS!

The great exhibition at Alsterhaus in Hamburg “Maria Callas, the Myth goes on” has finished with an unexpected triumph and an exceptional number of visitors: more than 1,300,000 people.

The most luxury German shopping centre has dedicated five windows overlooking the lakeside in the busy “promenade”, displaying the costumes of “Tosca” from the Operà of Paris, “Traviata and Barbiere of Siviglia” from the Scala of Milan and the dress she wore for her last concert in Tokyo in 1974; moreover a series of reviews from German newspapers dating from 1959 in Hamburg referring to the successful “Recital” at the Musikhalle, famous concert hall.

In the background of each window, the blow-ups of the theatres and auditoriums where the Divina performed.

Here below the dedication from the General Director of Alsterhaus of Hamburg to the Association Callas and its President Bruno Tosi.

With the collaboration of Raffles Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten, where, on September 19th, there will be a dinner party based on the singer’s favourite recipes, “Maria Callas-the Myth goes on” is an itinerant exhibition, already successful in New York, Tokyo, Paris, Rome and Mexico City. This is a significant return for the primadonna to Hamburg, a town strictly connected to her. “The Divina has always chosen Hamburg as starting point of her triumphal concerts all over the world: let’s think about the unforgettable recitals at the Musikhalle in 1959 and 1962 or in 1973 her first concert with Giuseppe Di Stefano- Mr.Tosi says-. The exhibition, on four floors, shows, in an innovative style, hundreds of antiques belonged to the greatest singer of this century, among which stage dresses, evening and concert dresses, jewels, theatre booklets, articles, interviews, criticisms, documents, autographed correspondence and photographs”.
